    Balance
    of power.
BMW corners better than any other bike.
    Period.
How so? Because a BMW is better bal-
anced than any other bike. It’s the one
motorcycle powered by our famed horizon-
tally-opposed twin. And here’s what that
    does for you.
First off, it lowers the center of gravity.
Instead of being top-heavy, like so many
of the big machines, a BMW’s c.g. is down
close to the road. The difference is phe-
    nomenal.
Second, the flat-twin design makes a
    BMW virtually vibration-free. That’s be-
cause the opposed pistons always move
simultaneously. Both in, and both out.
Which neutralizes the force that causes
    vibrations.
And which is why you can ride a BMW
    longer without getting tired.
Third, a BMW runs cooler than any other
bike, because the air circulates freely
around the heads while you ride.
As a result, your engine lasts longer,
    and requires fewer repairs.
What about the heads sticking out? Well,
what about it? Anybody whotellsyou there’s
danger of grounding has got rocks in his
own head. The only way you can ground a
BMW head is to dump the bike.
What else? We use a drive shaft instead
of a chain. So power transmission is fool-
    proof.
Our shaft is one-piece high-tensile steel,
completely sealed in an oil bath. No chain
to stripe you with oil and then break on
you when you’re miles from a repair shop.
And finally, there is one other thing.
BMW is the one motorcycle that’s finished
even better inside than it is out. That’s be-
cause BMW’s are designed by Germans,
and engineered by Germans, and built by
    Germans.
So you decide. When you’ve got long
miles to cover, and you’re turning some-
thing over 100 mph, what kind of steel do
you want under you? An ordinary kind?
    Or German?
Seeyour BMW dealer. And tell him you’re
there to test-ride the best damn motorcycle
    ever built.
