DESCRIPTION:
A 3 YEAR UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY FROM THE ONLY MOTORCYCLE COMPANY THAT WOULD DARE OFFER ONE.
RIDE A MOTORCYCLE THAT DIDN
’
T BREAK ANY SPEED RECORDS ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE.
Today, there are any number of motorcycles that will rocket through the quarter-mile in a hair-raising 13 seconds. Or less.
All the more reason to consider how fast these same machines are rocketing through the factory.
On an average day Suzuki, for example, will whisk out 7,000 bikes. Yamaha. 10,000. And Honda, an eyebrow-raising 14,000.
Eyebrow-raising, at least, to the engineers at BMW. Who have
long believed that mass production leads to mass compromise.
And who have avoided those compromises by maintaining a stern speed limit on the manufacture of BMW’s.
A speed limit that sees fewer than 150 motorcycles inch their way out of the Bavarian Motor Works on any given day.
A PRODUCTION LINE
WITH TWO SPEEDS: SLOW AND STOP
The Bavarian Motor Works is one of those rare places where a worker is more likely to be reprimanded for working too fast as opposed to too slow.
And where craftsmen are still proud enough to sign their work.
Twenty-six times, in fact.
From the artisan who hand-welds every BMW frame to the artist who hand-pinstripes every fender and tank cover; each assumes full personal responsibility for his or her work.
On a single BMW frame, over 9 feet of welding is painstakingly applied with a sureness and smoothness that machines simply cannot duplicate.
Upon this steady foundation are mounted some of the most precisely tooled components ever to grace a motorcycle. Components that are individually X-rayed to determine their stress value. And made of costly lightweight alloys, whenever possible, to enhance the motorcycle’s maneuverability.
As it creeps along the assembly line, the average BMW is inspected an average of once every 72 seconds.
Single-part components such as pistons receive 22 separate inspections.
Even our inspectors are, themselves, inspected.
Finally, to ensure that the whole will perform as admirably as each of its expensive parts, each and every BMW is test ridden at speeds in excess of 85 mph.
A final and, to BMW engineers,
a crucial examination for which high-volume manufacturers simply do not have time.
THE WORLD’S ONLY REASONABLY-PRICED ,590* MOTORCYCLE: BMW’S R100RS.
Largely because of the snail’s pace at which it went through the factory, the R100RS holds every solo long-distance speed record in the 1000cc class.
It is a machine engineered to permit its rider not only to attain high speeds, but to sustain them.
Year after year after year.
Through the straightaways and the twisties.
Through wind and rain alike. Where its wind tunnel-developed fairing forms a cocoon of still, dry air around the rider. And redirects the wind flow to help coax the motorcycle’s suspension downward.
And while the RS is somewhat more expensive than other 1000's, “unlike its lower-priced competition, the BMW won’t have begun to bore you by the time its warranty expires” (Autoweek).
Which, considering the duration of BMW’s limited warranty, is a long time indeed.
For it covers a BMW against any defects in workmanship and materials for 3 years and an unlimited number of miles.**
Or, in other words, for 3 times longer than the warranty offered on virtually any other motorcycle on the road today.
Providing you with the added assurance that your BMW won’t set any speed records on its way to the repair shop either.
THE LEGENDARY MOTORCYCLES OF GERMANY.
* Manufacturer’s Suggested retail price. Actual price will depend upon dealer. Price excludes applicable state and local taxes, shipping, and destination charges.
