    Description

    Antique mechanical alarm or house gong bell.  Also attributed as being used on trolleys.  Back is signed Patent June 15, 1858 by J Barton.  This bell has been restored and has a new black finish,  Bell cover is cast iron and measures 6 1/2" diameter and has original brass nut - the back mount is also cast iron and measures 8 5/8" high x 4 1/2" across at widest.  Barton's bells were offered in the 1865 Russell & Erwin catalog.  Chain is older chain but not the original.  Weighs 3 1/2 pounds.  Rings with a gong when pulled and also when released.  In good working condition.  Nice historical alarm or house bell from mid-1800's.
