  • Condition: Salvaged from an old Victorian door in Northeastern PA. It was made during the 1880's. It's made of solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not plated steel. Like most of the decorative hardware produced during the time period, it has an intricate, Aesthetic (Eastlake) style design. The design is enhanced by a rich, original patina (tarnish). At the point of salvage (see last photo), the piece was covered under many coats of paint and shellac. The portion of the plate under the lever was bent forward and the lever itself was also bent to one side. We spent almost 2 hours carefully removing the paint, trying to preserve as much patina as possible. We straighten the plate and bent back the lever as much as we felt comfortable doing--we didn't want to snap or damage the arm. The arm is not completely straight, but it's much, much better than it was and unless you study the piece carefully, , you won't notice. The bronze itself in great condition with only tiny nicks*FULL DESCRIPTION BELOW*

Antique 1880's Bronze Eastlake Doorbell  Lever
WOW! Gorgeous,  rare, antique, doorbell lever salvaged from an old Victorian door in Northeastern PA.  I'm not sure which manufacturer (R&E, Sargent, Corbin, etc.) made it but  I do know it was made during the 1880's. It's made of solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not plated steel.
Like most of the decorative hardware produced during  the time period, it has an intricate, Aesthetic (Eastlake) style design. The  design is enhanced by a rich, original patina (tarnish). If you prefer a clean,  shiny look, you could remove the patina with "Brasso" and some #0000  steel wool.
The arm is not completely straight, but  it's much, much better than it was and unless you study the piece  carefully, you won't notice.
The bronze itself in great condition with only tiny  nicks and subtle scratches There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or gouges.  It's ready for another lifetime of service.
