Description
This is a Twist Type doorbell probably made around 1900. There are no markings on the bell. This bell uses the later type mechanism where a rotating bar holds two weights that strike the bell as they rotate. In most cases this produces a nicer ring than the bells made in the 1800's. This particular bell produces a nice loud ring that turns easy with the key and does not jam. Most bells do not work this well. The entire bell is made of nickel plated iron. Unlike the cheaper bells the backplate is cast iron as opposed to a stamping. Except for the back plate of the bell everything else, including the key is made of brass. The bell is 3 " in diameter and the total bell assembly is about 4" by 3 1/4 ". The key plate measures a little over 3" by 1 1/2". A new connecting rod is included that should fit a door up to 2 1/2" thick. The rod will probably need to be trimmed since it is extra long.
