is so large, I had to photograph it's entirety outdoors! This
exceedingly rare
vintage banner is HUGE and over-sized and measures approximately
64" x 33"
!!
It was made by the
Chicago Pennant Company
; please see a close-up of the still-attached maker's label. After some research on Chicago Pennant Co. labels, the label that's present on this impressive and outstanding
Fighting Illini
banner indicates it was produced in the very brief window of 1920-22. This
century-old
vintage woolen felt banner features the
University of Illinois's
school colors, ornate and interlocking
"U.I."
school letters and an impressive burnt-leather Illinois school seal. All letters and seal are stitched onto the banner. While I have handled many vintage college banners that were produced by the Chicago Pennant Co., this is the
very first
example that is
double
(and in some instances,
triple
) the size of most others! The Chicago Pennant Co. produced over-sized felt pennants during this time period; eventually, the company reduced the large sizes of their pennants and banners. <>The

in simply *Stellar Shape* overall, exhibiting only very minimal age/handling faults....

The banner's colors remain strong on front and back!! The Chicago Pennant Co. label is nicely preserved!! The leather school seal is also in very Fine Shape as well, and remains very supple!
